Grammaticus Macedon, a dynamic and self-made individual, hails from the historic county of Grevena, located in the ancient Kingdom of Elimeia. Born and raised in the vibrant city of Kozani, he embarked on a remarkable journey of hard work and academic pursuit that led him across continents.
Academic Pursuits
Grammaticus began his higher education at LaGuardia Community College of the City University of New York, where he earned an AS degree in Math and Science, accumulating 140 credits. His academic excellence allowed him to enter the esteemed science program at the City College of New York, often referred to as “the poor man’s Harvard.” Here, he delved deeply into Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and also explored Physics, Geology, and Astronomy under the tutelage of the renowned astrophysicist Michio Kaku.
Beyond the university campus, Grammaticus attended classes at the National Museum of Natural History in New York, immersing himself in the centuries of evolution and the wonders of natural history. His studies were complemented by a diverse array of courses in music, ancient Greek and Latin, classical mythology, painting, drawing, philosophy, psychology, and sociology.
Theatrical and Political Engagement
Grammaticus’ passion for theatre and cinematography led him to earn a minor degree in theatre studies, studying at the same college where luminaries like Woody Allen and Tony Curtis once walked. His university experience was further enriched by the political vibrancy of the City College of New York in Harlem, where influential figures like Henry Kissinger and Colin Powell once studied. He actively participated in social clubs, including reopening and serving as president of the Greek Club “Omiros.”
Grammaticus was involved in diverse social and political groups, from Marxist and leftist groups to nationalistic groups, reflecting his open-mindedness and broad perspective on social issues.
Professional and Community Involvement
Throughout his academic journey, Grammaticus balanced rigorous studies with hands-on work experiences. He taught a wide range of sciences and mathematics at the Harlem Children’s Zone, creating lesson plans and helping students pass their exams. His dedication to education extended to attending seminars at Teachers College, Columbia University. Additionally, he worked as a photographer, videographer, graphics designer, website designer, and computer technician, showcasing his multifaceted skills.
Grammaticus’ involvement with Greek clubs and societies was profound. He played a significant role in the Laconian Federation and the National Issues Committee of the Federation of Hellenic Societies, contributing to writing resolutions, setting up events, videography, graphics design, and various other initiatives for the Greek community.
He is also involved with the Hellenic American Project (HAP), a Greek Museum and Archive under Queens College of the City University of New York, where he digitized archival material, set up oral history interviews of the Greek-American community, worked on events like photo and art exhibitions, and modernized and enriched the website with archival material. Additionally, Grammaticus is an integral part of the Euro-American Women’s Council, a networking non-profit that hosts worldwide events, giving awards to renowned personalities, from politicians and singers to Olympic champions, actors, and business people.
Current Endeavors
Today, Grammaticus Macedon is a creative director and multimedia specialist, while also dedicating his time to writing a biology book focused on the human biological heritage of Greece. He continues to work on scientific and other content creation projects, combining his deep knowledge, diverse skills, and passion for education and creativity.
